A Snow Halation meme that got you into Love Live can only mean one thing. I'm convinced that Siivagunner are single-handedly responsible for why Love Live (or at least µ's) are as popular as they are outside of Japan. A few years ago at Magfest during their panel, a LL fan actually got up and thanked them for introducing them to the series.

As for the TV drama, I agree with you almost entirely. It's good to watch if you're already an LL fan, but I can't recommend it to anyone who isn't. Even the music, as you said, just isn't the same quality we've come to expect from the anime LL groups.

It is nice, at least, that fans outside Japan finally have a way to enjoy SIM, even if it's via sailing the high seas. Maybe someday, if LL staff remembers we exist, they'll release the show on BD via an international distributor. But I'm not holding my breath.

Oh yeah, I would totally agree. Haven't listened to Siivagunner stuff (or Triple-Q, since I used to check out his individual videos a lot) in a while but it's funny to realize the sheer impact they had on exposing LL to the Western folk, just through some amusing mash-ups. Can't remember exactly *which* one got me hooked, but with how many instances of the joke they've done, I'm sure it's hard to pick out of the bunch.

RE: the music -- it's weird because I know they just re-used the songs from the actual musical theater production, but even then (and beyond quality), they didn't necessarily sound like songs that'd- I guess, fit within the overall Love Live world. There's a possible angle where the SIM team might've wanted to truly do their own thing and stray a bit further away from what's been heard within the 2D side of everything, which is fine... but similar to what you said, there's a certain standard a lot of fans expect when the 'Love Live' name is on it, especially when it comes to the music, and the tracks heard in the drama just didn't really come close to it. Although that just might be me being a bit of a snob (lol).

100%. I'm sure a lot of fans have been curious about this new facet of the franchise, so at least it'll get more people to be exposed to it, as well as watch something Love Live-related in a very unique setting. And again, I'd love it if a few people started listening to Noimii/Tokisen/AKB48/more general idol music b/c of this :D

Thanks for reading the review, btw, I truly do appreciate it 👍
